Submissions

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts may be submitted as a main article, discussion pieces or as a review article. The approximate length required for main articles is 7,000-9,000 words, for discussion pieces 5,000 words and for review articles 4,000 words, written in double space.

Spectrum is a refereed journal. Contributors are requested to allow time for the process of refereeing to take place.

Copy of the manuscript should be sent to the editor. An abstract of 40-60 words together with the author’s mailing address and academic or professional affiliation should accompany each manuscript. Authors should keep a copy of their work, as manuscripts cannot be returned. Copyright of all materials published is vested inSpectrum: Journal of Global Studies, in order to safeguard the author’s right. All contributors should note that material submitted to Spectrum must be original, must not have appeared elsewhere, and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere (whether as a journal article or as a part of a book/edited volume) while under consideration by Spectrum.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is written with one and a half line space; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The authors are required to follow Chicago Manual of Style/Notes and Bibliography Citation Format. The guideline can be accessed at http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
